Design of Cold Storage Structure for the Storage of White Yam (Dioscorea rotundata) Tubers

Yam tuber (Dioscorea spp.) is a staple tropical crop that usually best eaten in its fresh form. However, inadequate preservation and storage can result yam tubers deterioration immediately after harvesting due to their relatively high moisture content. All the traditional structures of preserving storing could not maintain freshness for long time. Therefore, need developing new structure farm produce needed. The major components cold are frame, compressor, condenser, capillary tube, evaporator. It would be fabricated with angle iron, galvanized mild steel, stainless steel insulated 0.025 m thick polystyrene foam cooling system operating R134a fluid. total space was 0.2 m3 it store 100 kg yam. heat load, compressor capacity, condenser evaporator capacity were 0.204 kW, 0.46 1.6059 1.37931 kW respectively. has prospect being used will very useful economy like Nigeria.
